Old Kempton Coachhouse Single Malt Whisky 60%
Old Kempton Distillery house style, this time at cask strength, a big whisky that showcases everything we love about our whisky. A dram to sit and think with.
The Coachhouse is the cask strength expression of the Old Kempton house style. To create this whisky, we select a small number of casks that are uniquely suited to being drunk at Cask Strength - casks that when kept at high abv provide a depth, length, and complexity of flavour that can only be achieved from a good cask strength whisky. The alcohol must not be overpowering – it is there for how it provides structure to the flavour rather than any other reason, so we are expecting toffee, almost overcooked anzac biscuit, and rum and raisin chocolate
Cask Type: Combination of cask types, principally Port (Tawny), Pinot, Bourbon, and Sherry (Apera)
Age: No age statement. Usually ~5.5 - 6 years in quarter casks (100L-125L)
.
Flavour: A sweet and elegant palate that maintains the body and alcohol warmth expected of a cask strength. Stewed apple and spices develop as the whisky moves across the palate.
Finish: A long sweet finish with jelly babies and gummy bears giving way to oak, mixed spices, and orange peel.
The Coachhouse Cask Strength pays tribute to the temporary location of our distillery when we first moved to Dysart House. The historic coach house was home to our distillery until the new distillery building was completed in 2021. During this time, the coach house played an integral role in the story of Old Kempton Distillery, producing whiskies that will be enjoyed far into the future.
