El Dorado High Ester PM/DHE
El Dorado High Ester PM/DHE
El Dorado High Ester Blend PM/DHE is a 10-year-old Demerara rum that blends spirits from two historic stills: the Port Mourant (PM) double wooden pot still and the Diamond High Ester (DHE) double retort copper pot still. The rum is known for its complex and diverse flavor profile, combining the rich, oily notes of the PM still with the intense, fruit-forward, and high-ester characteristics of the DHE still. It was distilled in 2014 and bottled at 51.7% ABV, making it the second release in El Dorado's High Ester Blend series.
Key characteristics
- High Ester Blend: The name "High Ester" refers to the high concentration of esters, which creates intense, "funky" flavors.
- Port Mourant (PM) Still: Distilled on a historic, wooden pot still dating back to 1732, this component provides heavy-bodied, oily, and leathery notes, with hints of smoky coffee and dark fruit.
- Diamond High Ester (DHE) Still: This modern double retort copper pot still is used to create the high-ester component, contributing intense fruitiness, acidity, and a mineral quality.
- Aged 10 Years: The rums are aged for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks before being blended.
- Cask Strength: Bottled at 51.7% ABV, this indicates a cask-strength release.
